This individual will coordinate medical record activities which impact reimbursement, including coding of patients records, communicating with medical and hospital staff re: DRG assignment; monitoring discharged not final billed accounts. The position provides consulting services to medical records staff. Other responsibilities include: maintain an average daily productivity level as set by department policy; perform other specific duties such as staff education, long term consulting, quality reviews for the organizations coding, working reports to maintain IP-DNFB at $2.5 mil. and OP-DNFB at $1.5 mil., perform other duties as assigned by the Assistant Director and Director of Medical Records, abstract demographic, medical, provider and other information as per departmental policy with 97% accuracy in order to generate accurate hospital statistics, maintain current knowledge and incorporate changes/updates in coding rules, utilize coding guidelines to ensure the assignments of appropriate DRG/APC, and assign ICD9CM and CPT codes to medical records of discharged patients with 97% accuracy for facility and/or 90% accuracy for ED professional component. Qualifications include: Degree in Health Information Management preferred; HIM credentials RHIA, RHIT, or CCS; and 3 years of coding experience in acute care within the past five years required.
