Organizational Tips

Before you start moving, you should organize your belongings for easy access. Organizing helps you determine which items are a priority to move, the ability to determine what can be left behind and will help you visualize where items can be placed. Organizing also helps you determine what types of supplies that you will need to make the move easier.

Leave it behind. Moving something that you really do not need will cause you to have more clutter in your new home. You can donate items to various organizations such as Goodwill and let others take advantage of items that you really do not need. You can also find a person that will bring over a large truck to haul off items that are too large for you to dispose of at a low cost. You should first get rid of any items that you do not want which will make the rest of the moving process easier.

Supplies. You will need lots of boxes, bubble wrap, strong tape, "sharpies" for labeling, newspaper and more. You always need more boxes then you plan for.

Prioritize. Whether you are moving on your own or you are using a service, you need to prioritize what is most important to you. Label the most important items as "A" and least important as "C" and pack them in in reverse order (this way when you unload you can unpack your most important items first).

Label. Try to keep your boxes labeled based upon the use/function of the items in the box. You would label kitchen items as kitchen and possibly sub categorize them as pots and pans.
