prepare stakeholders

Most companies involve other senior leaders in the hiring process for management positions and above. This provides multiple viewpoints from people that you trust on your current team to ensure that there is a "fit". Stakeholders traditionally are at the same level or above and are from different departments that collaborate together to make the organization more efficient.

Why Prepare? The reason that you want to prepare stakeholders is because you want honest input from your interviewers about the candidate. If your stakeholders are not prepared in advance, they will not have the time to look at the CV/Resume and see how this candidate will benefit their department and the rest of the organization. They are able to plan ahead in advance and make the candidate feel more comfortable instead of "guessing" at which questions that they should be asking.

Build a Portfolio. If you are interviewing a single or multiple candidates for your positions, it is easier for a stakeholder to review their information in an easy to understand format. This includes providing the CV/Resume, Cover Letter, References (if applicable), responses to previous questions, and other supporting information. Having this available before the interview (a week would be reasonable) would enable the stakeholders to appropriately prepare for the interview.

Schedule. You must block off time on their calendar to ensure that they will be able to attend the interview. Because most people are so busy, it would not hurt to send a follow up email the day before to ensure that you are able to have the right people participate at the right time. Make sure that the stakeholders know exactly when and where to meet.

Attire. Most of the time you will not have to worry about this too much, but if you have a person that is filling in for a stakeholder or someone that is very new and has never interviewed another before, it would be wise to suggest the proper attire for the meeting.
