Apple has been very busy. With the recent release of their iPad 3 taking most of the public attention, the massive technology company is quietly making moves in expansion, which could introduce new technology jobs into the marketplace.

On March 9, Governor Rick Perry announced that Apple will invest $304 million in a new campus in Austin, Texas that will double its current presence while also creating over 3,600 new jobs. This investment is done in partnership with the Texas Enterprise Fund, as they will invest $21 million in Apple over the next ten years.

Furthermore, Apple has sought and been approved for building permits at its iCloud data center in Maiden, North Carolina. The data center is currently sitting on 45 acres in the small North Carolina town. The original building plans were set for two data centers, only one is currently built – a 500,000-square-foot state-of-the-art facility taking up only 11.5 acres. The California-based company was recently granted zoning and building permits for another 34 acres to build another 500,000-square-foot data center.

Apple is also creating a 5-megawatt fuel cell installation adjacent of the data center that could potentially be operable by the end of the year. The fuel cell installation will be the largest non-utility fuel cell installation operating within the country, according to Apple's website.

Scott Millar, president of the Catawba County Economic Development Corp., told the Hickory Record that Apple planned to hire 50 employees and spend $1 billion within a decade on the data center. But after the first year, the company employed 76 people, not including indirect hires like supply security and mechanical work.

Although Apple and Microsoft are typically considered rivals, it seems as though Microsoft's report on cloud computing job growth rings true for the Silicone Valley tech giant as well. Technology jobs are seeing a great upswing with the improving economy. Submit your resume to a staffing agency to help get a leg up on the competition take advantage of recent job opportunities.
